How it works

  1. 1Draw

Open the editor and drag across the screen. Zones snap to a grid and to each other, so they line up on their own.

  2. 2Drag

Hold the activation key while you move a window (fn by default). Your zones light up.

  3. 3Drop

Let go over a zone and the window fills it. Release the key or press Esc to cancel.

Every monitor, its own layout.

Put a big screen above your laptop and each one keeps its own zones. Drag a window from one to the other and it snaps right in.

Unplug the monitor and its layout waits for it. Edge snap, if you turn it on, never fires on the border between two screens. Window layouts for multiple monitors

Questions

Doesn't macOS already tile windows?

It snaps to halves and quarters. Shoji lets you draw any layout, on each monitor. A different layout on each monitor

Is it like FancyZones on Windows?

It's the same idea: you draw zones and drag windows into them, with a layout for each monitor. How Shoji compares to FancyZones

Does it work with every app?

With any window macOS lets other apps move and resize. A few windows have a fixed size, and full-screen apps live in their own space.

Why does it need Accessibility?

It's the permission macOS requires to move other apps' windows. Shoji doesn't record your screen or read what's inside windows.

Is there a free trial?

No, but if Shoji isn't for you, you get your money back within 14 days.

Do I need an account?

No. Your license key arrives by email; paste it in Shoji and you're set.

Can I move my license to another Mac?

Yes. Deactivate it in Settings → General on the old Mac, then activate it on the new one.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Shoji checks the license every few days when you're online; being offline never turns it off.

What happens if I unplug a monitor?

Its layouts are kept and come back when you plug it in again.

Which Macs and languages?

Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 15 or later. The app is in English, Spanish and Japanese.
